Adoka Niitsu (b.1975 in Yamanashi, Japan) is a Paris-based interdisciplinary artist.
Her work, which draws from her reflections on image and media techniques and technologies, is diverse and integrative, encompassing installations, videos, and performances—taking on a research-oriented conceptual approach. In contrast, her drawings, paintings, and prints focus on the fundamental visual language created through accumulated hand movements, evoking delusions in the viewer by exploring the depths of the unconscious.

Influenced by her family's profession—her father ran an advertising office in a rural area, designing flyers, signs, and logos for local small shops and regional industries—she developed an interest in the production process of printed materials and the meaning of advertising. When she was an art student, she formed a female artist group "MACH GIRLS" to present internet art, during the early days of the internet.
After she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Joshibi University of Art and Design, she studied Media Arts and media environmental expression at IAMAS (International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences) in Japan.
Niitsu received the "Joshibi Paris Award" by the Fumiko Ōmura Foundation established by Dr. Satoshi Ōmura (biochemist, Nobel Award) to support female artists, which granted her the opportunity of artist-in-residence at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris from 2007 to 2008. She also got a one-year fellowship from the Japanese Government to research Media Arts and material in Seoul from 2008 to 2009.
Since 2010, she has been living and working in Paris. In 2012, thanks to the artistic support of the Ōki Memorial Foundation (the family of Hiroshige's patron during the Edo period) and the lithography print studio IDEM PARIS, she started a limestone project based on the history and evolution of visual media communication.
From its origins to the present day, from fossils to microchips, her work delves into the “history of images” and explores our behavior in a society under the influence of media and technology.
Her latest exhibitions include "Yamanashi Media Arts Award Selected Works Exhibition" (Yamanashi, Japan, 2024), "Répliques Japonisme" (Palais des Beaux-Arts de Paris, 2022), "I Say Yesterday, You Hear Tomorrow. Visions from Japan" (Galerie delle Prigioni - The Benetton Foundation, Treviso, Italy, 2018), and "Future Mythology Diaries" (Gallery of the Cité internationale des arts, Paris, 2018). Her latest solo shows at Galleria Daniele Agostini, Lugano, Switzerland (2020), Galerie Yoshii, Paris (2018), and Galerie Hors-Champs, Paris (2017).

Along with her art activities, she contributes to educational and cultural exchange art projects with universities, art institutions, and galleries, such as the Beaux-Arts de Paris, Geidai (Tokyo University of the Arts), and Joshibi University of Art and Design.
